The Congress party celebrated its 131st foundation day today. Congress president Sonia Gandhi hoisted the party flag at All India Congress Committee (AICC) head quarters to mark the occasion. She would also be addressing a gathering of the Congress workers at the party headquarters.

National Herald Case at Patiala House Court
Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi on Saturday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will not achieve his dream of a ‘Congress Mukt Bharat’ and Congress won’t bend at any cost. He was speaking after his mother and Congress president Sonia Gandhi and himself were granted bail within minutes of the hearing of the National Herald case in a Patiala House court. Bail was granted on Rs.50,000 personal bond and one surety each. Rahul also claimed that the Prime Minister and his government were repeatedly making false accusations against the opposition. Addressing the media, Sonia Gandhi said that the government won’t be able to destroy the Congress and added that the latter will try their best to bring the truth out. She also said that the BJP is targeting them intentionally and won’t achieve success.

Nation remembers Rajiv Gandhi on his 71st birth anniversary
President Pranab Mukherjee led the nation in paying homage to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 71st birth anniversary on Thursday. Congress President and Rajiv Gandhi's wife Sonia Gandhi, son Rahul Gandhi, daughter Priyanka Gandhi, son-in-law Robert Vadra and granddaughter Miraya Vadra paid tribute at his memorial, Vir Bhumi, in New Delhi. Vice-President Hamid Ansari and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh also paid homage to Rajiv Gandhi. Birth anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi is observed as Sadbhavna Diwas (harmony day) in the country. Rajiv Gandhi became the youngest PM of the country when he took office after his mother Indira Gandhi's assassination on October 31, 1984. Rajiv was killed by an ethnic Tamil suicide bomber while campaigning in an election in the south Indian town of Sriperumbudur in May 1991.
