The Congress President added, “The primary education has been made a fundamental right. It is for all of us to ensure that this right is asserted and imposed so that all of India’s children from 6 to 14 receive free education”.
Striking an emotional chord with the people of Karnataka, Sonia Gandhi asserted that nothing exemplifies India’s diversity better than Karnataka itself, where people belonging to different culture, believing in different faith and speaking different languages have lived and worked for peace and harmony with each other.

Rahul Gandhi in Mumbai to rejuvenate Congress


Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi reached Mumbai on Friday on a two-day visit. Rahul Gandhi said that he would tour the state more often to boost the grass root cadre and assist party preparations for the 2014 assembly elections.
Interacting with NSUI delegates from Maharashtra at Bhaidas Hall in suburban Vile Parle, Rahul Gandhi said, "I plan to undertake constituency-wise tours to take a first-hand view of the party's strengths and weaknesses. I will come more often here."
He also held a meeting with Youth Congress elected representatives. Rahul Gandhi called for the need to have zero tolerance to corruption and said that even those from the Congress should not be spared.
Rahul Gandhi also felicitated youth Congress activists who had won the recent local bodies election. He asked the youth Congress activists to identify their area of work and compile it on the youth Congress website. "The work will be evaluated and marks would be given. Good and meritorious workers will get enough chance to prove their mettle in politics, added the congress General Secretary.

Rahul Gandhi visits drought-hit Satara in Maharashtra


Mumbai: Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi visited various places in the drought-hit Satara district in Maharashtra Saturday morning. Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan and other senior ministers were also along with him.
Rahul Gandhi visited the Zalshi Talao, which is one of the water sources in the district. He is also scheduled to go to nearby Bijwadi to take a look at state government sponsored employment guarantee schemes being implemented there among the drought-affected people of Satara and also will visit the Pangari fodder depot in the district which supplies fodder to a large cattle population in the region.

Referring to the attempt to murder case against Matiyari, Priyanka Gandhi said the situation had become so deplorable that people now appreciate a legislator if he doesn't murder or harm anyone.
Criticising the existing trend in politics, she said, 'You have seen the politics of religion and caste in the past 22 years. 'Development has been put on the backburner. Politics has become bad and opportunistic”. 'The politicians divide your votes on the lines of religion and caste. You vote for them and then you beg to them,' she added. Priyanka Gandhi told the crowd that her brother and Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi was more interested in changing the state than winning elections.
'He (Rahul Gandhi) is very stubborn. I had asked him during the previous assembly election why he was working so hard when the verdict was not known? He told me he was least interested in it and said his focus was to bring a positive change in the state,’ said Priyanka Gandhi. 'I too now believe that the time has come to make a sea change here,' said Priyanka Gandhi.
'The election is not about the prestige of my family. That is another issue. But here it is about you and your children's future” reminded Priyanka Gandhi.
This will be possible only when the Congress is strengthened and its government is formed in UP,' she added.
